Goodbye Wendy's: this new McDonald's burger in the United States will take over

McDonald’s launches without warning a double burger that's already generating comparisons: it's causing quite a stir

McDonald’s is making a strong bet on renewing its menu in 2025. What's interesting is that it doesn't always do so with big announcements. Sometimes, new items arrive quietly and with a surprise effect.

This year, we've seen old favorites return and unexpected options appear. From McFlurry to new drinks, the chain is trying everything. But now, a double burger threatens to change the rules of the game.

A discreet yet forceful burger

McDonald’s has just launched its new Daily Double burger in all locations across the country. It's a double burger with cheese, tomato, onion, shredded lettuce, and mayonnaise. It may seem simple, but it has an unexpected twist. Unlike McDonald’s classic menu, there's no ketchup or mustard here.

There's also no seeded bun or special sauces, just basic ingredients, but well chosen, and that's exactly what makes it so appealing. The chain has opted for a simple formula, but one that recalls other iconic burgers. Like Wendy’s Dave’s Double, with which it shares more than one similarity.

A direct response to Wendy’s?

Although McDonald’s hasn't confirmed it, many believe the Daily Double is a strategic replica. At Wendy’s, its most popular double burger has almost identical ingredients. It's bigger, yes, but the approach is similar. The move could make sense: offering something similar, at a lower price, in a menu that's already successful.

In addition, this burger comes with a key change for the chain: the use of mayonnaise as a base. This ingredient isn't common in most McDonald’s burgers. It only appears in products like the Big Mac or the Quarter Pounder Deluxe. With the Daily Double, the brand is exploring new ground.

Now available across the United States

The Daily Double was first tested in three cities: Miami, Seattle, and Chicago. Since June 26, it's been available nationwide and will be on the menu until the end of 2025, but that's not all. Starting July 22, it will be added to the popular McValue Meal Deal, for $6 or $7, including a burger, McNuggets, fries, and a drink.

The launch has been quiet but strategic. It arrives just before the desired return of the Ranch Snack Wrap. It could steal the spotlight from other favorites. In a year full of moves in the fast food industry, McDonald’s stands out again. It does so without scandals, with calculated and appealing launches for consumers. This burger proves it.
