It's official: these American retirees didn't receive the Social Security payment

They clarify the reasons why millions of beneficiaries in the United States did not receive their payment on July 9

During the first days of each month, millions of Americans stay alert for the arrival of their payments. For many of them, these funds are essential to cover basic expenses such as housing, food, and medicine. Waiting for the monthly check has become a routine marked on the calendar.

With the start of July 2025, expectations grew again around the key date of Wednesday the 9th. However, that date didn't bring good news for a large portion of beneficiaries. Although it seemed to be the designated day, many retirees and other Social Security recipients haven't received their money.

The reason why some haven't been paid this July 9

The Social Security Administration (SSA) uses a staggered payment system. This means not all beneficiaries receive their money on the same day of the month. The schedule depends on the type of benefit and, above all, on the recipient's date of birth.

The July 9 payments were only intended for those born between the 1st and the 10th. The rest of the people will see their deposit on later dates. That's why many retirees shouldn't be alarmed if they haven't received their payment yet.

Who has and hasn't been paid yet?

A small group already received their check before this week. It was last Thursday, July 3, when those who have been receiving benefits since before May 1997 were paid. Those who combine Supplemental Security Income (SSI) with other Social Security benefits were also paid.

The majority of beneficiaries won't see any income on July 9. This includes people who started receiving their payments after May 1997. For them, the money will arrive according to their date of birth, on one of the following Wednesdays.

Those born from the 11th to the 20th of the month will receive their deposit on Wednesday the 16th. Those born between the 21st and the 31st will have to wait until July 23. These time frames allow SSA to better distribute the funds and avoid delays.

How much money is expected to be received?

Payments vary according to the type of benefit. On average, a retiree receives about $2,002.39 per month. People with disabilities (SSDI) collect about $1,581.97.

Survivor beneficiaries receive an average of $1,566.66. For those who rely solely on Supplemental Security Income (SSI), the amount is around $718.30. These amounts may vary depending on each person's individual situation.
