Diego Pablo Simeone's possible departure from Madrid´s Atlético has been quite a subject for many months now. Despite having contract until 2027, there are always several rumours around him when the team doesn´t have a good football moment. The most heared names to replace him are former players of his who are now coaching other teams.
One of the clearest examples is Fernando Torres, current coach of Atleti B who is developing his career at the red-and-white club´s waiting spot. Another name that has come up a lot recently is the former captain of Madrid´s Atlético, Gabi, who has his leader Getafe B [sic]of the always complicated 2ª RFEF[Second Federation - Football league]. Now, another old acquaintance, who is already succeeding as a big club´s coach, has joined these legends.
He Triumphs in Brazil and Atleti Takes Him into Account
Filipe Luis, who spent eight seasons at Atlético and left a significant mark on the club, recently took over as Flamengo coach. In record time, the Brazilian has demonstrated his ability as a strategist by winning the Copa do Brasil, defeating Corinthians in the semi-finals and Atlético Mineiro in the final. This success in his first experience as an elite coach hasn't gone unnoticed, and has led to Filipe's name starting to be mentioned.
Atlético's sporting management is watching Filipe's development as a coach with interest. His knowledge of the Colchonera philosophy and his closeness to the "cholismo" during his time as a player make him an attractive profile for a future without Simeone. In addition, his understanding of the game, his competitive nature and his experience in soccer could be an ideal complement for the transition when Cholo decides to step aside.
His wars with Leo Messi
Filipe Luis was one of the best full-backs in the world and he had to dance with Messi on many occasions, with Brazil and with Atleti. Their clashes were always remembered for how tough they were, as they exchanged words on and off the field on more than one occasion. The memory remains of that expulsion in the 44th minute for a tackle by the red-and-white player to the Argentine star.
