Atlético de Madrid have made a huge (and necessary) number of signings to rejuvenate the squad. Seeking the latter, they signed a young Arthur Vermeeren from Antwerp last winter. After some attempts to get him to play a few games, it seems that Simeone did not quite agree and all parties decided that a loan was the solution.
His new destination would be RB Leipzig, the club that has produced young players such as Dominik Szoboszlai, Erling Haaland and Benjamin Šeško is an expert in nurturing young talent. So the young Belgian did not hesitate and left for Germany. He is only 19 years old and it is too early to decide whether he is worth it or not, so getting minutes in a team like this will be beneficial for all involved.
Unbeatable start
His debut for the club from Saxony could not have gone any better: a comeback and a win against the reigning Bundesliga champions. Bayer Leverkusen bowed down in their own stadium against Leipzig after going 2-0 up. However, they got a taste of their own medicine when they were turned around 3-2 in the 80th minute, thanks to a double from Loïs Openda.
The new signing in the Lipsian midfield came on in the 89th minute with the match already over and to give freshness to the midfield in the final minutes. A testimonial entry that served to consolidate the comeback and a brilliant start for Marco Rose's team with two wins and a draw.
His last match: result glasses
An expression that will be familiar to the most 'fifers' and that Manolo Lama often repeated in the video game. As we have mentioned before, the draw that has taken them to third place was achieved yesterday against Union Berlin. A match in which Arthur Vermeeren was not a starter either but in which he had more playing time.
Marco Rose brought on the Belgian midfielder in the 66th minute for Amadou Haidara . He played 24 minutes and did not have much impact on the game either, but he hopes to gain minutes and importance in the German team. His arrival at RB Leipzig was based on these premises and was facilitated by a conversation with Mark Van Bommel, the Bayern Munich legend.
Next game: Atlético de Madrid
His next match, as we have mentioned in the header, will be against the red-and-white team to which he still belongs. As he does not have a 'fear clause' , he will be able to play in his old stadium with the Leipzig shirt in the Champions League.
The match will take place on Thursday at 9pm and will be the starting shot for both teams in the top international competition. The new format will not allow the return leg to be played at Leipzig's stadium, but it will certainly be a special match for the young Belgian.
