Darwin Núñez's Sale Affects Atlético Madrid: Liverpool Has Signing

The Rojiblancos are keeping an eye on England.

The transfer market is on fire, and one of the names causing the most stir in the major European leagues is the forward Benjamin Šeško. The Slovenian forward from RB Leipzig has caught the attention of several top-tier clubs, but in recent hours Liverpool has taken the lead with a firm offer.

This offensive by the  "Reds" complicates the aspirations of Atlético de Madrid, which had been following the player for months and studying his incorporation. Simeone's team saw Šeško as an ideal option to strengthen the forward line for the next season, but Liverpool's entry has completely changed the scenario.

Šeško, a Forward Who Fit Atlético de Madrid

Atlético de Madrid has been looking for a forward who fits into Simeone's scheme, especially after the departures this past summer of players like Álvaro Morata and Memphis Depay.Benjamin Šeško perfectly fit the profile of the striker that the red-and-white team needs: good aerial play, capable of playing with his back to the goal, and with good off-the-ball movement.

Already in the summer of 2024, the Madrid club had explored the possibility of signing Šeško, although his release clause with RB Leipzig was considered a significant obstacle. At that time, Atlético prioritized other positions and decided not to make an immediate effort for his signing.

Liverpool Takes the Lead: Million-Euro Offer on the Way

According to various sources, Liverpool has decided to activate Šeško's release clause, which now hovers around 70-80 million euros. This would leave Atlético with no room for maneuver, as the red-and-white club is not in a position to match such a significant offer without first making a major sale.

Additionally, the English team might be preparing for a possible departure of  Darwin Núñez or Luis Díaz, which would further increase the need to incorporate a reliable forward. The presence of offensive-profile players like  Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, and Cody Gakpo would allow Šeško to gradually adapt to the team.

Atlético in a Difficult Position

Atlético now must decide whether to seek another alternative in the market or attempt a last maneuver to convince Šeško that their project is the most suitable. However, the economic difference with the Premier League is evident, and the Madrid club knows that competing against English teams financially is an almost impossible task.

Despite this, Atlético trusts in the attraction of LaLiga and the opportunity to play under Simeone's leadership as compelling arguments. In the past, other players have rejected offers from the Premier to join the colchonero project, but the current situation with Šeško seems more complicated.
