Simeone is not convinced and his transfer is ruled out: official message to Rodrigo de Paul

End to the Drama: Simeone's Star Signing Renews, Blow for Rodrigo de Paul

The Red-and-White Club Misses Out on a Signing That Was Liked by the Coaching Staff

Atlético de Madrid had been closely following Leandro Paredes for some time, but finally, the Argentine midfielder has made a decision that frustrates the rojiblancos' plans. The player has renewed with Roma until June 2026, closing any possibility of signing for Simeone's team. He has also closed the door on returning to Boca Juniors, another club that sought his incorporation.

Atlético de Madrid and Boca Juniors, Without Options for Paredes

For months, Atlético de Madrid had Leandro Paredes on their radar as an option to strengthen the midfield. His quality in ball distribution, positioning, and intensity made him an attractive signing for Simeone's scheme.

At the same time, Boca Juniors also attempted his return, with Juan Román Riquelme leading the negotiations. However, the talks between the Argentine club and Paredes's camp did not come to fruition, and now, with his renewal with Roma, that possibility is completely ruled out.

Roma Bets on Paredes: Renewal Until 2026

Roma has made official the extension of Leandro Paredes's contract until June 2026. Although his future seemed uncertain a few months ago, the arrival of Ranieri has returned him to prominence in the team, being a starter in 10 of the last 14 matches.

In an official statement, the Italian club highlighted the world champion's importance in their project. "AS Roma is pleased to announce that Leandro Paredes has renewed his contract with the club until June 30, 2026. The world champion midfielder with Argentina in 2022 has tied a significant part of his prestigious career to the giallorossi colors."

Paredes, who had already played for Roma between 2014 and 2017, returned to the club in 2023 from PSG. In total, he has played 129 matches with the Roman jersey, scoring 10 goals.

Blow for Rodrigo De Paul and Atlético de Madrid

For Atlético de Madrid, this renewal is a hard blow, as Leandro Paredes was an interesting option to strengthen their squad for the next season. Additionally, his friendship with Rodrigo De Paul made it seem that his arrival at Wanda Metropolitano could be more feasible.

However, with his continuity assured in Italy, Atlético will have to look for other options in the market. Meanwhile, Boca also sees a dream signing slip away, making it clear that Paredes will continue to be a key piece in Serie A.
