Javi Galán's future at Atlético Madrid has taken an unexpected turn, and it seems that there is still a chance that he could leave the club earlier than planned. Although the transfer market in most of the major European leagues has already closed, the transfer window in Turkey is still open. There, some clubs are looking to the major European leagues to help them strengthen their squads.
A secondary role under Simeone
Since his arrival at Atlético de Madrid, Javi Galán has not managed to establish himself in Diego Simeone's plans. Despite the fact that the club signed him with expectations of adding depth in the left-back position, the reality is that his role has been minimal. In fact, he is the player with the fewest minutes played in the squad this season. The competition in his position, added to Cholo's tactical preferences, have relegated him to a secondary role, making it clear that his participation will be limited in the coming months.
The former Celta de Vigo player has seen his opportunities on the pitch drastically reduced. This situation has generated frustration in the footballer, who feels stagnant and with few prospects of prominence at Atlético de Madrid.
The Turkish market option
With transfer windows closing in Spain, Italy and other major leagues, Javi Galán seemed destined to stay at Atlético, at least until the winter window. However, the possibility of a move to Turkey has emerged as a viable alternative. Galatasaray, one of the most important clubs in Turkish football, has shown interest in securing the full-back's services.
Galatasaray's interest is no coincidence. Following Mario Hermoso's departure to Roma, the Turkish club has seen Javi Galán as an ideal option to strengthen its defence. The team managed by Okan Buruk needs an experienced left-back who can quickly adapt to its game plan, and Galán fits that profile perfectly.
It is not the only option
Another big Turkish club, Besiktas, was interested in the Spaniard a few weeks ago. Given the huge transfer window for their main rival, Galatasaray, they want to make a last-minute reinforcement.
Turkey has repeatedly pointed out the reality of this interest and it would not be surprising if it were reactivated now. Atlético de Madrid do not count on him and Galán wants minutes.
