Gil Marín Steals Real Betis's Star Signing: New Partner for Pablo Barrios

The Rojiblancos are competing with the Sevillanos for a player.

The transfer rumors don't stop for summer and both Atlético de Madrid and Real Betis have set their sights on the same target to strengthen their midfield: Wilfred Ndidi. The Nigerian midfielder, currently playing for Leicester City, has become one of the most attractive options for both LaLiga clubs, who are looking to bolster their squads for the next season.

A Reliable Midfielder

Wilfred Ndidi, 28 years old, has been a key player at Leicester City since his arrival in 2017 from Genk. The Nigerian has established himself as a reliable holding midfielder with a great ability to recover the ball. His playing style would fit perfectly in Spanish soccer, especially in teams seeking a balance between defense and attack.

Despite having renewed his contract with Leicester until 2027, the club's complicated situation in the Premier League could open the door for his departure. Currently, the ‘Foxes’ are in relegation positions, which could force the sale of some of their most valuable players next transfer market.

Atlético de Madrid: An Opportunity to Strengthen the Midfield

The team led by Diego Simeone needs to strengthen its midfield, especially given the possibility that Koke Resurrección, a club emblem, might leave the red-and-white discipline at the end of the season. Additionally, Rodrigo de Paul and Pablo Barrios have shown inconsistent performance, which has led the club to seriously consider the arrival of a holding midfielder like Ndidi.

Atlético was already interested in the Nigerian last summer, but his renewal with Leicester made any move difficult. Now, with the uncertainty surrounding the English club, the red-and-whites could make another attempt and seize the opportunity to incorporate a player with experience at the elite level.

Real Betis: Strong Competition from Seville

Betis is also in the race for Wilfred Ndidi, according to Caught Offside. Manuel Pellegrini seeks to strengthen his midfield for the upcoming season, especially considering the possible departure of Guido Rodríguez, one of the pillars of the Betis team in recent years. Ndidi would fit perfectly into the Chilean coach's scheme, providing recovery, muscle, and balance in the midfield.

However, the Seville team will have to compete not only with Atlético de Madrid, but also with other European teams, such as Monaco, which has shown interest in the Nigerian. The competition could increase the cost of the operation and complicate Ndidi's arrival at Benito Villamarín.
