Atlético de Madrid is in luck after its victory against Valencia. Simeone has managed to introduce the Cholista values as they used to be: clean sheets, a hard-to-beat team, assertiveness in the penalty areas and a win, above all the latter. The victory against Los Ches was another contribution to recover the signs of recognition of any team managed by Cholo.
However, everyone was hoping for a situation to happen and it did. With just a few minutes left, a dead ball in the area was headed in by Julián Álvarez who sent it in. The whole stadium came down and started making the 'spider' gesture, something similar to what Spiderman does in his movies.
At the stadium, everyone imitated the Argentine's famous celebration, the celebration was maximum as it was the only thing missing to round off a perfect night. Thus, Atlético de Madrid faces its first Champions League match against RB Leipzig , in a match in which the red-and-whites will meet Arthur Vermeeren again.
A meme machine
Atlético de Madrid's Twitter account (X) wasted no time in continuing with the memes after Julián Álvarez's goal. First, they uploaded a photo of the 'deformed Spiderman' to social media, which officially marked the signing of the former Manchester City striker. Then, they posted another photo with the 'deformed pitbull', in tribute to Conor Gallagher's goal.
As if that weren't enough, yesterday the Twitter account uploaded the following image, comparing it to the famous meme of Spiderman meeting Spiderman. The madness is unleashed and no one can stop it. If I were the director of the next Spiderman movie, I wouldn't hesitate on how I should announce it in Spain.
Finally, a video from DAZN's post-match programme 'Super 8' showed how many of Julián Álvarez's teammates imitated this gesture. A sign that everyone in the team was looking forward to 'the spider' opening his goal tally with Atlético de Madrid. Once the bottle has been uncorked, all that remains is to enjoy all the goals that will come from the striker of the world champion team.
