Marcelino snatches an old desire from Simeone: closed, Gil Marín couldn't sign him

The red-and-white club sees Villarreal closing in on an old desire

Atlético de Madrid is one of the clubs in Europe to which the most names are linked during transfer markets. The red-and-white club is usually active when it comes to new signings, but they don't always secure the players they want. Two seasons ago, the sports management was very interested in a young player from Bruges, but he ultimately signed with Inter Milan.

This player is the young Canadian, Tajon Buchanan, whose future seems to be in Spain. However, it won't be at Atlético de Madrid, but he will play on loan at Villarreal.

Buchanan, a signing that slipped away from Atlético de Madrid

Atlético de Madrid showed great interest in Buchanan in the past, seeing him as an ideal option to strengthen the wings due to his explosiveness and versatility. However, the player ended up signing with Inter Milan in January 2024, where the Italian team paid seven million euros to Club Bruges for his transfer. Despite his potential, the footballer hasn't had many opportunities with the nerazzurri team, accumulating only 163 minutes in six Serie A matches and one in the Coppa Italia.

Now, Marcelino and Villarreal have taken advantage of the situation to secure his loan until the end of the season with a purchase option, getting ahead of other teams like Monza. His arrival responds to the yellow submarine's need to strengthen their team following the departure of Ilias Akhomach.

A profile that fit Atlético de Madrid

Buchanan is an extremely versatile player, capable of playing as a right-back, midfielder on both wings, or winger, making him a very interesting option for any team. His speed, dribbling ability, and skill to create danger in attack were characteristics that fit perfectly into Diego Simeone's scheme. However, Atlético didn't manage to finalize his signing and will now see how a LaLiga rival acquires his services.

Villarreal has managed to get ahead of other European clubs and, barring any surprises, Buchanan will wear yellow in the coming days. Meanwhile, Atlético de Madrid continues working in the market to strengthen their team, aiming to remain competitive in all competitions.
