From Offering Himself to Simeone to Criticizing Atlético de Madrid: Failure at Real Madrid

A Real Madrid player who was close to Atleti now criticizes the red-and-white club

The classic in the capital of Spain is hotter than ever, and the barbs between both teams don't stop. This year we have seen the most candid Simeone return in press conferences, generating much controversy with his statements. The latest were about refereeing in favor of Real Madrid, following the Copa del Rey scandal against Celta de Vigo.

The Argentine coach didn't stay silent and commented: "I don't know what surprises them, it's something that's been happening for 100 years." These words didn't sit well with Real Madrid, and a footballer was quick to respond. That player was Dani Ceballos, whose history with Atlético de Madrid is curious, despite now acting as a defender of Madridism.

Offered to Simeone

Since his arrival at Real Madrid, Dani Ceballos has hardly been considered even as a substitute player. He only had minutes in Copa del Rey matches against lower-category teams or if there was a huge plague of injuries. This has made him want to seek an exit several times, and one of the clubs that were mentioned was Atlético de Madrid.

According to various reports, the Andalusian player even offered himself to the colchonero club, but Real Madrid wasn't going to allow that transfer. He ended up staying there, and this year, in a midfield practically without players, he is getting more minutes. Ceballos himself was the one who replied forcefully to Simeone's words about refereeing in favor of his team.

Ceballos's reply

Two weeks ago, after Real Madrid's 4-1 victory over Las Palmas, Dani Ceballos spoke about Simeone's words. "Well, I think Cholo still hasn't gotten over the two Champions League finals he lost against Real Madrid. In the end, they have their opinions, and we have to keep working in the same line, which is working."

In his words, Ceballos wishes to earn the easy applause of his fans, but he doesn't recall what was previously stated. He has wanted to leave the white club on numerous occasions and has been offered to Atlético de Madrid.
