Fast food has always been a pillar in American culture and economy. Among burgers, French fries, and desserts, major companies like McDonald's or Burger King have left their mark on entire generations. However, the market is changing, and new rivals are emerging, starting to attract more and more customers in our country.
In fact, one particular chain, founded in 2002 in Kansas, is expanding rapidly. With more than 550 locations in 36 states, its growth doesn't seem to be stopping in the United States or around the world. Moreover, it is already preparing to open more than 130 restaurants between 2025 and 2026.

Freddy's and its ambitious national and international growth
Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers has become a serious competitor for traditional chains. In recent years, the company has signed agreements to reach 800 restaurants in the United States by 2026. This pace of expansion is the result of an aggressive and well-planned strategy.
Additionally, Freddy's has decided to bet on internationalization. Since 2022, it has signed several agreements to enter the Canadian market. Its first location in Winnipeg, Manitoba, will open on June 3, as a result of an alliance with North 49 Frozen Custard and Steakburgers.

In 2023 and 2024, new agreements were added with ZZA Hospitality and local franchisees to open restaurants in Alberta and Winnipeg in the coming years. The chain wants to offer an authentic and close experience, adapting to local communities. John Hall, franchisee and operating partner, expressed this, highlighting Winnipeg's enthusiasm for trying new restaurant concepts.
Expansion in the fast food world: a clear trend
Freddy's isn't alone in this international push, as other fast food chains are also looking to cross borders this summer. For example, TGI Fridays announced its relaunch in the United Kingdom for July, after overcoming financial difficulties. Taco Bell will open its first location in Ireland, and Chipotle will arrive in Mexico in 2026 with a new development agreement.
Although Freddy's hasn't announced more openings in Canada for now, its digital presence shows excitement about connecting with new customers. Recently, it created an Instagram account for the region and posted welcome messages for its opening.

Freddy's growth reflects a shift in consumer preferences and the need for constant innovation. Americans, used to their classics, might be ready to welcome this rapidly growing chain.
