A major mechanical failure in Ford vehicles comes to light, putting road safety at risk

Ford isn't going through its best moment. The company, which has been facing several challenges in recent months, has just announced a massive vehicle recall that has left more than one million owners concerned. With a history of ups and downs, this new setback could mark a turning point for the brand.

To make matters worse, the affected vehicles have been called back to dealerships, generating uncertainty about the safety of certain models. Although it seemed that Ford had left its quality problems behind, this new incident once again calls the brand's reliability into question. If you own a Ford, it's crucial that you know whether your car could be among those affected.

Which Ford models are affected?

The company has just announced the recall of more than one million vehicles due to a failure in the rear camera system. This defect, which mainly affects the SYNC 4 system, represents a serious risk to road safety. Ford has decided to address this problem with a remote software update, which will be sent to the affected vehicles automatically, as long as the car is connected to the Internet.

It won't be necessary to go to the dealership unless you prefer to perform the update in person. Official notices to owners began to be sent between June 16 and 20, 2025.

The affected models include Ford F-150 (2021-2023), Ford Bronco (2021), Ford Mustang Mach-E (2021), and many more. Ford has published an extensive list of affected vehicles that includes both regular and Super Duty versions of the F-150. You can check your car's VIN number to see if it's on the list, either through the NHTSA website or on Ford's page.

The failure originates in the SYNC 4 system interface module, in versions 1.7 to 1.9. This error prevents the rear camera from communicating properly with the vehicle's reverse action, causing the image to be lost on the screen. Although the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) received 37 complaints and 15 reports of frozen image failures, only one accident without victims has been reported.

How will this affect Ford?

This is one of the largest vehicle recalls in Ford's recent history. Although the company has assured that the entire SYNC engineering team is working to fix the problem, this isn't the first massive recall the brand faces. Previously, Ford had to recall several vehicles due to fire risk, showing that safety remains a priority, but it also exposes some recurring failures in its vehicles.

This recall is another blow for Ford, which is struggling to keep its image of safety and reliability. What's next? As owners face this defect, the question that arises is whether Ford's problems are a trend that could continue.
