Toyota, one of the leading automobile manufacturers worldwide, is facing an unexpected situation in the United States. The company has announced the recall of more than 400,000 vehicles from its fleet, after identifying a technical issue that affects the safety of all drivers.
This recall affects several recent models of the brand, which has caused great concern among the owners of the affected vehicles. The aforementioned defect, related to the vehicles' reverse lights, has already been reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
According to the report, the reverse lights of certain models may fail over time due to moisture entering the light assemblies. This can reduce the driver's visibility when backing up and, in the worst-case scenario, increase the risk of accidents.
Affected models by the recall
The notice was reported on May 19, and the recall includes vehicles from the years 2022 to 2025. The risk is especially high if both lights stop working, which can make it difficult for drivers to warn about their movement.
The recalled vehicles include the following Toyota models:
- Toyota Tundra 2022-2025
- Toyota Tundra Hybrid 2022-2025
These models present a potential risk by not being able to properly warn pedestrians or other vehicles when the car is in reverse. For this reason, Toyota has decided to proceed with the inspection and repair of all affected vehicles, which will allow the restoration of the safety and functionality of the reverse lights.

What should affected owners do?
If you are the owner of one of these vehicles, do not be alarmed, as the repair process will be free of charge. You will only need to take your car to a Toyota dealership to have the reverse light assemblies and wiring harnesses repaired or replaced.
Toyota will send notification letters to the owners of the affected vehicles starting June 30, 2025. In addition, if you want more information, you can contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331, with recall numbers 24TB06 and 24TA06. If you have questions about whether your vehicle is affected, you can check the NHTSA or USA TODAY recall databases to verify the status of your car.
