From Failure at Atlético de Madrid to Coveted Signing by Europe's Giants

A former rojiblanco player will be one of the main attractions of the upcoming transfer market.

In soccer, things can change drastically for footballers in a matter of years, or months. The mind and confidence are essential for a player to perform at their best level, something that is demonstrated year after year. Diego Pablo Simeone is an expert at getting the most out of his footballers, but logically, sometimes he doesn't succeed.

One of the biggest examples of this is Matheus Cunha, a former Atlético de Madrid player who is now thriving in the Premier League. The Brazilian forward couldn't fit in with Cholo or his coaching staff and chose to seek an exit for more opportunities. Last season, he joined Wolverhampton, where he has established himself as a star of the English club.

The Most Sought-After Forward in England

Matheus Cunha is one of the standout names in the Premier League this season. The former Atlético de Madrid forward has already scored 12 goals and provided four assists in 25 matches he has played this campaign. Thanks to his level, his team remains out of the relegation positions, leading Leicester City by two points.

However, his numbers and football are becoming too big for a club fighting for the lower positions in the Premier League. During this winter market, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Nottingham Forest showed interest in him, but he ended up renewing until 2029. Nevertheless, his new contract includes a release clause for this summer for about 75 million euros.

Unique Numbers This Year

According to Sport, the Brazilian forward recorded unique statistics next weekend. He had five shots on target and completed seven tackles, something no player in the five major leagues had achieved this season.

If his level doesn't drop drastically, Matheus Cunha is destined to be one of the big sales next summer. He left Atlético de Madrid in search of minutes and found in England the confidence he needed to bring out his best version. Meanwhile, Simeone continues to search for his fully reliable center forward.
