Gonzalo Miró criticises Simeone and Atlético de Madrid

Gonzalo Miró's new criticism of Simeone that angers Atlético fans: 'Coward and...'

The famous COPE panelist once again expressed disagreement with Simeone.

The epic comeback of Atlético de Madrid against Bayer Leverkusen at the Metropolitano, with a stellar performance by Julián Álvarez, sparked euphoria among the red-and-white fans, but it was not without controversy. During El Partidazo de COPE, panelist Gonzalo Miró didn't hold back in his criticism of Diego Pablo Simeone's initial strategy. He called it "cowardly" and "unworthy" of a team that was coming off a historic streak of consecutive victories.

The Initial Strategy under Scrutiny

"Today, faith, courage, passion, and above all, having a star like Julián on your team managed to turn around a cowardly and unworthy initial strategy. The Atlético de Madrid that has won 15 consecutive matches had played something very different," noted Gonzalo Miró, visibly critical.

The panelist referred to the 5-4-1 system with Griezmann placed on the left wing, something that, according to him, gave all ball control to Bayer Leverkusen. "You give the entire field and the ball to Leverkusen in a big match, one to crown yourself. It is something that has been very hard for me to understand," added Miró, emphasizing that the initial strategy didn't reflect the ambition that has characterized Atlético in its best moments of the season.

The Team's Reply in the Second Half

Despite the criticism of the strategy, Miró highlighted the team's change in attitude after the expulsion of Pablo Barrios and Leverkusen's initial goal. "The passion and courage of the team lifted the stadium, and the match became very chaotic. There, Atlético de Madrid knew how to play it much better than Leverkusen," he stated.

The panelist also emphasized the effectiveness of Atlético, which turned its only two shots on goal into scores. "That is what having standout players like Julián Álvarez gives you, who not only scores goals but changes games with his quality and determination."

A Recurring Debate about Simeone

Gonzalo Miró has always been one of the biggest detractors of Diego Pablo Simeone. Despite the fact that the Argentine coach has transformed the club's history, the panelist has disagreed with his strategies.

What is undeniable is that Atlético remains alive in the Champions League thanks to a memorable comeback that reaffirms its competitive character and connection with its fans. Miró's words are sure to sting more than a few, but Simeone's team remains at the top in all competitions.
