Pep Guardiola Sends a Message to Julián Alvarez After His Departure: 'he Wanted...'

The Catalan coach spoke about Atlético de Madrid's forward

One of the keys to Atlético de Madrid's great performance this season is Julián Alvarez's level. The Argentine forward left Manchester City in search of being an undisputed starter in a team and has found what he wanted in the red-and-white club. Pep Guardiola spoke about this ahead of the Champions League match against Real Madrid.

Guardiola, Honest About Julián Alvarez's Departure

During the press conference before the Champions clash against Real Madrid, Guardiola was questioned about Julián Alvarez's signing by Atlético de Madrid. This was an operation that caused much debate in England.

"I don't feel responsible for it. The club brought me an extraordinary player and Julián Alvarez was very determined to leave because he wanted to play all the minutes he has now and didn't have last year." These were the words of the Catalan coach.

City Would Have Given Alvarez More Minutes This Season

Guardiola also admitted that, had he stayed in Manchester, the forward would have had a more significant role this season due to the number of injuries the squad has suffered. However, he understands that Julián Alvarez's decision to sign for Atlético de Madrid was made.

"In life, this happens sometimes, he wanted more prominence, and with Erling (Haaland) it was sometimes difficult. This year, obviously with the number of injuries we've had, he would have played much more. But he is happy, and that's the most important thing," acknowledged Guardiola.

Julián Alvarez Shines at Atlético de Madrid

Since his arrival at the team led by Diego Simeone, Julián Alvarez has become an essential pillar of the colchonero attack. His goal-scoring ability and versatility have been key for the Madrid team, something Guardiola himself celebrated in his appearance before the media.

"He decided to sign for Atlético de Madrid and we are very happy that he is doing so well due to the continuity, the goals, and the presence he has. He helped us a lot to achieve something unique in our club, and seeing good people like him do well makes us very happy," stated the City coach.
