Clear path for Simeone: he's close to signing his new center-back, a transfer for Robin Le Normand

A defender from LaLiga hasn't left his club in this winter transfer window.

The winter market has come to an end, but at Atlético de Madrid they have always had an eye on the summer, when they will make many moves. One of the areas of the field that is likely to see the most reinforcements is the defense, as there are several players whose departure seems almost inevitable. Additionally, the sports management wants to follow the same roadmap as last summer, aiming to rejuvenate a very veteran squad.

On the agenda of the colchonero team, there are several center-backs noted as potential additions, although negotiations haven't been initiated. At least two reinforcements should arrive at the Metropolitano for the defense, as there are two certain departures for that area, barring a major surprise. One of those players is in LaLiga and has been rumored to join the red-and-white team for some time, although the competition will be very high.

Young Spanish prospect

Despite the new Club World Cup, at Atlético de Madrid they are clear that they need to have their upcoming signings in sight as soon as possible. One of the names that the club likes is Mika Marmol, a Spanish defender from Las Palmas whose departure from the Canary team was very close to being finalized this winter. Teams like Como, Sevilla, or Roma inquired about his situation, although none reached the 10 million of his release clause.

FC Barcelona holds 50% of his rights, something that forces the island to get the maximum benefit for the center-back, as they will only receive half of the money. For now, Mika Marmol's contract ends in 2026 and he hasn't renewed his contract, opening the door for a departure next summer. He is only 23 years old and has a market value of 12 million euros (13.2 million dollars), a figure higher than his release price, making him a market opportunity.

An ideal signing for Simeone

Unless there is a change in situation, both César Azpilicueta and Axel Witsel are expected to leave the squad at the end of this season. Both contracts are expiring, and nothing suggests they will renew, making them almost certain departures for the defense for the next campaign. Additionally, Reinildo is uncertain about his continuity, although he has an automated renewal option if he plays 45 minutes in 20 matches, something very feasible.

Mika Marmol would be perfect to fill that left profile that was so difficult to reinforce in the summer, with Clement Lenglet chosen to replace Mario Hermoso. Even so, there are more names on the list to fill that position, such as Piero Hincapié, one of the stars of Bayer Leverkusen under Xabi Alonso. A signing of such characteristics would obviously be much more expensive, although its impact on the squad would also be greater.
